Summary #
Here is a Premium pure STR rogue using a scythe. It also has epic dodge and blinding speed.
DPS vs bossy dummy is about 115, also tested in a cold raid where the character is 100% venerable to cold (and did not die once).
Does best in frozen and vald, but can do all raids. In por it attracts a lot of agro from bosses, but they can’t hit you and in other raids there is too much phys dr and crit immune that it becomes a bit average. The build only requires a scythe and bigby ring and anything after that is a bonus.
This version has Ride because it’s using rogue belt that givs +3 vs bigby. The mount gives 3 AC so you can hit 91 with song, but unless you’ve got shadowfax it might not be a good idea, so the alternative would be to swap Mounted Combat with Iron Will.
Final Stats #
AB = 69, 67 with blinding speed.
AC = 80, 82 with blinding speed, 88 with bard song.
HP = 640
DPS = 115 vs boss dummy with shield, and 130+ without
Will = 47 (bigby saves 55)
Fort = 45 (the biggest weakness, just dont get hit)
Pick Pocket = 97
Items #
- This build relies heavily on purple items, using Whispering Sash and bigby ring gives you +8 to bigby saves and benefit you very well.
- Scythe gives you +20 ab cap which is usually hard to get with a 40 rogue. Although it is still lower ab than a pure rogue the strength bonus as well as more powerful weapon make up for it giving it an overall higher dps as well as higher ac as it can use a shield and not be really weak.
- Black Ghost is the ideal armor to use due to +2 ac via base armor class and it being a +7 armor item.
- Cloak for extending blinding speed is nice to have, but limits item PP unless using a green shield. You must pick either a green shield or resist cloak.
Why it works #
- 3 base attacks looks and feels bad, but when you pair it with blinding speed or another form of extra attack it actually becomes quite good. Think of an AB of 70 for simplicity, if you have 4 base attacks and 1 from haste you attack at 70, 65, 60, 55, 70 (haste). Now when you add in blinding speed you go to 68, 63, 58, 53, 68 (haste), 63 (blinding speed). That 55 and 53 ab vs bosses isn’t that great unless the boss is blind or prone, but when you add blinding speed to a 70 ab rogue it becomes 68, 63, 58, 68, 63. Those are all very nice rolls to have and you can have 100% uptime on all bosses assuming the party is not bad.
- You have 88 ac in a raid and epic dodge. You can tank things quite easily.
- You can cast 15 min mind immune via mind blank scrolls. Mind immune ring isn’t really needed unless you are trying to go out first and be the target of spell casters.
- You can pp and disable traps. Very beneficial to a party.
- Time stop synergises very well with sneak based builds and can really make this shine.
- The pure set bonus of blind is actually kind of overpowered. AB be damned once someone is blind.
One thing you may want to consider is using a cold resist ring, but stats will be tight. May not be able to use extended blinding speed.
